About the Software Team

We are a high performing, cross functional, self-organizing team that concurrently develops multiple software titles for multiple operating systems. Each team member needs to be flexible and willing to learn new skills, as needed. Job Title: Agile Software Tester

Department: Software Development

Reports To: Software Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt


Designs and executes manual and automated test plans and strategies to ensure the quality of Vernier’s software products.

ESSENTIAL Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Collaborate with Development team to support release planning, estimation, and delivery processes using Agile methodologies
  • Create, execute, and maintain manual and automated test cases throughout the Agile development cycle
  • Contribute to daily Scrum stand up and related meetings (issue planning, retrospective, sizing, etc.)
  • Assume responsibility for defect tracking, communication, and resolution
  • Participate in all aspects of a story's lifecycle from refinement to review
  • Manually test new features and regression test released features


  • Desire to work in a constantly evolving, Agile environment
  • Passion for software testing and a commitment to fostering team success
  • Familiarity with one or more automated testing tools (Selenium, Appium, etc.)
  • Familiarity with one or more scripting languages (JavaScript, Ruby, etc.)
  • Knowledge of version control systems (like Git)
  • Ability to configure testing environments (setting up Windows or Linux VMs, etc.)
  • Experience with test management and issue tracking tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Eagerness to learn and keen attention to detail


  • Experience with Agile and Scrum development practices
  • Experience with macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, & ChromeOS  
  • Experience with Unix-based operating systems (Linux, macOS, etc)
  • Familiarity with the Document Object Model and development tools built into web browsers
  • Working knowledge of Vernier Software & Technology sensors, interfaces, software, and curricula

Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Ability to apply mathematical concepts typically covered in college calculus and college statistics.


Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism, such as formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
